Skiing is a favorite pastime of many people regardless of where they live. Ski vacations are becoming one of the most popular vacation themes and with ski resorts located world-wide, it’s not difficult to take up the sport.

The origins of skiing are a bit confusing. Many different cultures developed ski-like mechanisms that resemble what we refer to today as “skis.” One was the snowshoe which could be covered by different materials, depending on the owner’s preference. One covering was fur and another version had moccasins attached to the top of the snowshoe so all that was required of the user was to slip their foot into it and off they’d go.

Skis have come a long way in design since those times and there is a brand, size and style for everyone regardless of experience. Depending on your skill level you can purchase skis made from different materials. Some skis still have a wooden core. The wood chosen in the manufacture of skis is normally either spruce or fir. Some skis have a combination of both woods. The middle core is normally surrounded by a high performance material; something that will enable the skier to glide the hill almost effortlessly. Two commonly used materials are glass and titanium. As a person gets a feel for skiing and the equipment they generally choose the type of ski that best suits them. Figures for the third quarter have been released by Sky Broadband (BSkyB), which show significant growth in the company’s telecom services business despite the recession. However, the growth rate has taken a dip when compared to the same period last year.

The quarterly results show a growth in the number of subscribers by 130,000, which is much lower when compared to 229,000 new customers that the company was able to get in the third quarter last year. The total number of subscribers now stands at 2.085 million.

A clear change was seen in the preference of the customers this quarter with more and more people opting for bundled deals and the UK broadband providers offering more to fulfil the demand. 1.4 million BSkyB customers are now availing all three services of phone, TV, and broadband, amounting to about 15% of the total customer base. Last year this number stood at 0.8 million or 9% of the total customers.

Jeremy Darroch, CEO of BSkyB, commenting on the latest figures released by the company, said that the customers were now enjoying multiple benefits from the bundled deals and saving money by doing this.

It seems the company has been able to get its strategy right to deal with the recession. By offering value-for-money packaged deals, BSkyB has been able to attract customers in an otherwise gloomy environment. This would no doubt squeeze the competitors who do not have other services to lure the customers.

In the last few years we have witnessed a woman who drowned her children just to keep her rich boyfriend. An ice skating competitor who had the legs of her top rival broken so she could win. We have seen a mother hire a hit man to eliminate her daughter’s competition in baton twirling championships. Another man destroyed his pregnant wife to be able to play the field, and live the life of a playboy.

Perhaps the most unbelievable of all was a woman who killed a pregnant woman then cut her open and stole her unborn baby. I take exception with those who take exception with me for saying, that we have a nation of potential criminals and crackpots in our own children.

We have created this dangerous potential by giving our children anything and everything they want or call for. When they enter the real world, the work a day world where they must fend for themselves suddenly the silver platter is withdrawn and the reality is too much to handle for some. We have forgotten the days of our austerity when as pioneers, plainsmen, and immigrants we were thankful to have our most basic needs met. We have elevated our wants and desires to the level of the sacred.

We imitate and borrow from the language of the greedy with our preoccupation with the prosperity gospel of today’s preachers. You will be just as likely to find today’s churches teaching us how to invest our money as how to get saved. Being born again is mocked and set aside in favor of instruction in the stock market, retirement funds and get rich schemes. Add to this, that modern psychology, sociology and other behavioral and environmental scientists have repeatedly warned us that poverty leads to crime and social upheaval of every kind. You can only imagine what America would look like if virtually every extra and almost all essentials were at a premium, if they could be found at all. It does not paint a very good picture.

The ancient city of Sodom was rebuked by the prophet Ezekiel. Everyone knows the sins of ancient Sodom but in Ezekiel’s rebuke, the root cause for Sodom’s sin is revealed. In Ezekiel’s rebuke there is a warning for us to recognize the same cause festering in our land today. Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fullness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. Eze.16:49

Ezekiel’s rebuke comes to my mind every time I hear some one refuse to give a few dollars to a children’s organization because they think the child won’t get all the money. But no one seems to even notice, much less demand a tax refund when a four hundred million dollar Jupiter probes go haywire and becomes useless. Movies are made that cost hundreds of millions of dollars to produce, whose messages and images would he better left in a garbage can. Tax money is spent on everything from the study of the flow of ketchup to the nocturnal habits of lesbians. Concupiscence and waste are rampant in every level of society and government, while personal responsibility and prudent stewardship has become an ethical relic of sorts. Where does it end?

I have no doubt that the chastisements of America will be the sudden and complete removal of nearly all essential goods and personal wealth. Something on the order of the dust bowl and the stock market crash combined, but multiplied many times over will soon befall this country. How this will come about is not certain but that is not my concern at this moment. I would prefer to see millions of Americans coming to their senses and turning back to God in humility and thereby avoiding this great portent, but I am sure that this is not what they are going to do.

Look for the Transformation

So i’m in the middle of writing another screenplay that is turning out to be a lot like an episode of the Office – if you’re from the US, it was a really big sitcom in the UK – and I’m reminded of an important point as I sketch out the step-outline using my custom developed 188+ stages of the Hero’s Journey.

One of the trunks of the Hero’s Journey is the Transformation: in fact a story IS transformation. You don’t appreciate that unless you’ve sat through and deconstructed hundreds of Hollywood blockbusters like I have.

Well the quick point I want to make is that before you start the step-outline, you need to figure out what the transformation will be. Then it becomes easier to illustrate that transformation through clothing, behaviour etc. With that in mind, you can jump through the Road of Trials pretty easily.

I believe it is possible to design a pilot-less hydro-electric blimp which would have a propulsion system which never requires fuel and would be based on a Perpetual Motion Machine which uses fluid dynamics in a hydro-electric. First the shape of this thing would be similar to the new shopping mall shade cover on the Las Vegas Strip. An oblong flying saucer shape would be two of these, which would be stacked like pancakes. They would be apart by 1/3 the length of each symmetrically shaped oblong saucers shaped lighter than air blimps. In the middle would be an hourglass shaped unit. Attaching the two blimps, similar to the struts on a Baby Great Lakes Acrobatic Aircraft.

There could be two or even three of these. Each would have a hydroelectric motor with a direct drive propeller. Water tanks would be on both saucers above the hourglass configuration for thrust. There would be circulating tracks perpendicular to the direction of travel of this craft. When the water is depleted on the above tank where the water flows down the blimps would rotate and put the water back on top. This mechanism would be battery powered hooked to hydraulics.

The battery would be trickles charged by solar panel thin membranes on top of the saucers and also a little power by magnetic charges on the inner mechanism of the spinning propeller. This unit would once launched, could fly forever. And never need recharging. The issues with weight of the water providing the dynamic pressure for the at 8.2 pounds per gallon would not be an issue. Because you do not need that much water because you could increase the spin change interval of the saucers. This unit could be made big or small. Micro-hydro powered units are now being used in the houses, which allow condensed water to flow down hill and provide power for the house.

These small units can provide as little as 1-2 amps of power for mini-UAV flying balloons the size of two smashed shoe boxes for aerial surveillance. The solar micro thin cells would also heat the water a little and there for provide additional heat for the helium in side to keep the atoms moving around and providing more life. Depending on the drop of water height and speed of water, you could have the propellers hooked to a counter rotation system where by you could put two propellers front and back of each hourglass strut. The first idea for a use of this devise is to use it to patrol borders in low winds and in high winds tethered but always under power. Right now over our US Mexican border the lighter than air blimps are only up 60% of the time.

A friend in Yuma, AZ a former Boeing Research Engineer living in a Winter Snow Bird park tells me as soon as the blimps go down the flood of illegals come across. They just wait until they stop flying the surveillance blimps and come over in droves. A surveillance blimp needing no fuel has plenty of possibilities for so many applications.
